We are delighted to share these brand new concerts with you.
On the second and fourth of May, Vega Trails will play two shows in respectively LantarenVenster and TivoliVredenburg.
Vega Trails is a new musical project by bassist and composer Milo Fitzpatrick (Portico Quartet) and saxophonist Jordan Smart (Mammal Hands, Sunda Arc), focused on exploring the raw interaction between bass and melody. Born during lockdown, Tremors in the Static reflects Fitzpatrick’s immersion in sparse, spacious music, drawing inspiration from Swedish fiddle and Indian Classical music. A pivotal moment came after hearing Charlie Haden’s Closeness, which led Fitzpatrick to envision the project as a duo.
Smart’s versatile playing, including tenor and soprano sax, bass clarinet, and Ney flute, brought depth and emotional range to the duo, elevating the collaboration. Vega Trails combines two communicative, open-minded musicians to craft unique, soulful stories through their sound.
On April 30th, Zuzanna Całka will bring her (new) music to TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht.
Polish keyboardist/composer Zuzanna Całka may create soothing music, but her touring schedule is anything but calm. In June, she performed at our OPIA festival (curated by Ólafur Arnalds), and in January, she took the stage at Eurosonic Noorderslag. Now, she is returning to TivoliVredenburg. Całka debuted in 2023 with her EP Late Night Takes, inspired by the Japanese concept of boketto—the art of daydreaming. A full album is on the way, and during her performance at ESNS, Całka showcased her fearless approach to new sounds, blending influences of electronica and psychedelia into her evolving musical journey.
