Matteo Myderwyk

Matteo Myderwyk is the first Dutch pianist and composer to be signed to the prestigious Warner Classics label. He is also the first Dutch artist to be nominated for an Edison Award in Neo-Classical music two years in a row! With his album A Brief Nostalgia, he gained (inter)national attention, leading to sold-out shows and his second Edison nomination.

Matteo’s years of training as a classical pianist at the conservatory mainly taught him to move beyond the music of his heroes, Bach, Liszt, and Messiaen, and to find his own musical language. His first step was to abandon all classical rules, creating music without pre-set boundaries, with the aim of composing in the moment. This became the most important lesson of his experimental period: music isn’t confined to paper; it is created in the moment.

His live shows pick up where the acclaimed album left off, exploring a complete sonic universe—from impressionistic piano playing and minimalist soundscapes on the organ to edgy solos on his Moog synthesizer. Music made in the moment, blending his classical background with the wonders of free jazz, has become Matteo’s signature style in recent years.
