Laura Masotto
Laura Masotto is a classically trained Italian violinist and composer known for her blend of classical, electronic, and experimental music. She began her musical journey at five, graduating from the Conservatory of Verona, and performed extensively with European orchestras from the age of 15. Over her career, she has collaborated with renowned artists, contributed to theater projects, and recorded for film soundtracks, including works featured at the Locarno Film Festival.
Her solo work began with the 2019 release Fireflies, composed with violin and looper, followed by Here and Now (2020) and WE (2021), from which the last one was released under the Berlin label 7K!, which integrates strings and electronics. She partnered with Deutsche Grammophon in 2022, composing for Mari Samuelsen’s album Lys and contributed a reworking of the classical composition “Shéhérazede” to the collection “Summer Tales.” She has contributed to several dance productions and label compilations, including “Duet Layers” (with artists such as Hania Rani, Colin Stetson, Niklas Paschburg) released by 7K!.
In 2023, Masotto scored soundtracks for two films 100 Preludi by Alessandra Pescetta and La Seconda Vita by Vitto Palmieri. She has opened for artists like Hania Rani and Joep Beving. Her latest album, The Spirit of Things (2024), debuted with acclaim from The Wire and Electronic Sound and premiered at the Bridge Film Festival.
